The Lion and the Mouse
by Aesop, 1912
A lion wakes to find a tiny mouse running over his face and spares its life, laughing at its promise to repay him one day. When the lion is caught in a hunters' net, the mouse gnaws the ropes and sets him free: even a mouse can help a lion. Aesop's fable in V. S. Vernon Jones's 1912 translation.
