Privacy Policy

The short version

• You don’t need to tell us anything to read or listen.
• We don’t set cookies, and we don’t sell or share information for advertising.
• We count visits to understand which books people enjoy, without identifying anyone.
• Your narration setting stays in your own browser.

Visit statistics

We use two analytics tools to see how the site is used.

Vercel Web Analytics records page views: the page, the page that linked to it, approximate location (country, region and city), device type, operating system and browser. It uses no cookies. Visits are counted with a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and the results are aggregated.

PostHog also records page views. We set it up to keep nothing on your device (no cookies or local storage), to record no clicks or typing, and never to record sessions. Like any website request, it receives your IP address and browser details, which can be used to estimate your location. PostHog processes this data in the United States.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel. To deliver pages and keep the service secure, Vercel processes standard request information such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request.

Settings on your device

When you turn narration on or off, the player remembers your choice in your browser’s local storage so it stays the same next time. This setting is never sent to us, and you can remove it by clearing your browser’s site data.

Email

If you write to admin@bookpopup.com, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply. Ask us any time to delete your messages.

Children

Book Popup is made for families and children. Children can use it without giving any personal information, because the site asks for none. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has emailed us, write to us and we will delete the message.

Service providers

Vercel and PostHog handle data on our behalf under their own policies: Vercel Privacy Policy and PostHog Privacy Policy.

Your choices

The site works fully if you block analytics with your browser or a content blocker. To ask about information related to you, or to request its deletion, email admin@bookpopup.com.

Our videos, and YouTube API Services

We also publish the books as videos on our own YouTube channel, Facebook Page and Instagram account. They are uploaded with a small tool that runs on the site owner’s own computer, which uses YouTube API Services. By using it, the owner agrees to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of the data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

The tool collects nothing about viewers. No information about children, or about anyone who watches the videos, is collected, stored or used by it.

With the owner’s permission it reads our own channel — its name and statistics, and its videos’ titles, view counts, privacy and made-for-kids settings and playlists — uploads videos with the titles and descriptions the owner wrote, and adds them to playlists. It does the same for our own Facebook Page and Instagram account.

Everything it keeps stays on that computer: the sign-in token Google issues, a record of what has been published (video IDs, titles, links and dates), and channel information held in memory for a few minutes. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else, and the tool carries no advertising, analytics or tracking.

Access can be revoked at any time on Google’s security settings page. Stored data is deleted on request, within 7 days, by writing to admin@bookpopup.com.
